Respect every person
Treat children, families, staff, and fellow volunteers with dignity. Do not discriminate, harass, intimidate, or use insulting language or behaviour.
Volunteer code of conduct
These guidelines help every Front Aid volunteer contribute with care, humility, and respect for the people, places, and programmes they join.
Working together
Volunteering is a partnership with communities, not a chance to take over. We ask each volunteer to listen first, work alongside local teams, and uphold the dignity, safety, and choices of every person they meet.
Code of conduct
Treat children, families, staff, and fellow volunteers with dignity. Do not discriminate, harass, intimidate, or use insulting language or behaviour.
Follow the direction of Front Aid staff and community partners. Ask before starting a task, changing a plan, or offering advice outside your agreed role.
Arrive on time, communicate early if plans change, and be honest about your skills, availability, and any challenge that affects your placement.
Keep personal stories, contact details, and sensitive information private. Do not share them online or with others without clear permission.
Everyday practice
Support activities you have been assigned and ask a coordinator before taking on new responsibilities, especially those involving children, health, or finances.
Always ask a Front Aid coordinator before taking photos or video. Never post images, names, locations, or personal stories of children or community members without documented consent.
Dress appropriately for the activity, follow local customs, use respectful language, and ask when you are unsure about a norm or expectation.
Use water, food, supplies, accommodation at Kalule Bwaise Children Shelter or Meaford Nursery and Primary School, and transport thoughtfully. Return equipment, keep shared spaces tidy, and report damage or shortages promptly.
Be friendly and encouraging while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Avoid private, unsupervised, or secretive contact with programme participants.
Tell your coordinator promptly about a safety concern, conflict, illness, injury, or situation that does not feel right. Reporting in good faith is always encouraged.
Child safeguarding
Children and young people have the right to feel safe, respected, and heard. Every volunteer must follow these non-negotiable safeguarding rules.
Keep activities visible and supervised by authorised staff. Avoid one-to-one meetings, private rooms, isolated areas, and unscheduled contact.
Do not hit, shame, threaten, bully, restrain, or use any behaviour that could frighten or harm a child.
Sexual contact, sexualised language, grooming, exchanging gifts for attention, or any exploitative relationship with a child is strictly prohibited.
Do not ask for, share, or use private phone numbers, social accounts, or messaging apps to communicate with children outside authorised Front Aid channels.
If you see, hear, suspect, or are told about harm, exploitation, neglect, or unsafe conduct, report it immediately to a Front Aid coordinator. Do not investigate on your own or promise secrecy.
Front Aid will review concerns promptly and fairly. Depending on the situation, a volunteer may receive guidance, have duties changed, be removed from an activity, or have their placement ended. Serious safeguarding concerns will be handled through the appropriate reporting and protection process.
