2022–2028 strategic plan

A plan for relief, empowerment and community transformation.

Front Aid Foundation Uganda’s strategic direction for caring for, supporting and educating children, youth and women.

Our foundation

Preamble

Front Aid Foundation (FAF) is a charitable non-profit company limited by guarantee, registered in Uganda in 2019. The Foundation brings schools and local communities together through research, innovation and knowledge management, creating sustainable value from local products and strengthening community competitiveness.

The plan sets out activities, initiatives and milestones to be delivered with district and central government structures, international agencies, development partners, and local public and private organizations. Its guiding belief is helping people who are unable to help themselves to build the capacity to do so.

The direction ahead

Executive summary

In a nutshell

The Foundation plans to build and operate a Centre for Relief, Empowerment and Community Transformation in Wakiso, Central Region, Uganda. The envisioned centre includes a shelter for more than 150 homeless children, temporary accommodation for up to 50 youth and 50 women or caregivers, vocational and training facilities, a health unit, classrooms and a demonstration farm.

Target population

The Foundation focuses on children aged 4–13, youth aged 14–24 and young women aged 18–30. Support is expected to prioritize children as 60% of beneficiaries, with youth and women each representing 20%; priority is given to orphans and neglected children, people affected by domestic violence, economic crisis, and climate-related hardship.

Front Aid works to awaken empathy, kindness and benevolence through practical opportunities to give, share, empower and balance power through equitable resource sharing.

The long-term intention is to transform socio-economic conditions by empowering children, youth and women to become self-sustaining climate ambassadors and agents of change.

How we work

Guiding principles

Empathy and selfless service for human life and the planet guide the Foundation’s work. Support is offered with integrity, without discrimination based on religion, race, class, age or circumstance.

Climate change awareness

Compassion for others

A healthy and moral existence

Social development

The residential complex is designed to be more than short-term shelter: it will offer formal and informal education, personal development and pathways for children, youth and women to make informed choices and become climate ambassadors.

What we are building

Centre priorities and activities

The Centre for Relief, Empowerment and Community Transformation is planned as a connected set of services for care, learning, livelihoods and community support.

Shelter, counselling and peace hub

An orphanage and supportive space for people affected by domestic violence.

Farm and food production

Urban gardening demonstrations alongside commercial animal and crop production.

School, library and training

Primary, secondary and vocational learning supported by workshops, laboratories and a library.

Skills and home industry

Work training and entrepreneurship opportunities for children, youth and women.

Health care

Accessible community health support, including prevention, guidance and outreach.

Mobile outreach

Counselling, intermediary work and small-business support delivered at grassroots level.

Digital access and fundraising

Website and communication services, grant applications, charity shop and exhibitions.

Care and opportunity

Operations in Uganda

The Foundation plans to continue providing affordable, hospitable and non-discriminatory support to children, youth and women in the community, while building the capacity of its facilities and team.

Orphanage and residential care

A planned two-storey, courtyard-centred orphanage would include residential rooms, a crèche and nursery, kitchen and dining spaces, study and computer rooms, office, living areas and first-aid support. The Foundation emphasizes individual assessment, family reunification where safe and possible, and a stable environment for people who remain in care.

Health care unit

The proposed unit centres prevention and accessible quality care for foster children and at-risk community members, with immunization, counselling and guidance, safe male circumcision, family planning and community outreach identified as services.

School and library

Education would combine core learning with climate awareness, global understanding, respect for different beliefs and a stronger connection to the natural world. Volunteer teachers may contribute additional support and cultural exchange.

Vocational skills

Training is planned in briquette production, tailoring, automobile mechanics, farming, arts and crafts, baking, soap making and crocheting, with pathways matched to each participant’s interests and abilities.

Personal development

Play, sport, team activities, trips and environmental education are intended to build self-respect, confidence, responsibility and care for the environment.

Home industry

Women of working age may build short-term income and savings through products such as handicrafts, charcoal briquettes, small furniture and garments.

Farm and orchard

Livestock, fruit, herbs and vegetables can provide learning, environmental connection and organic food for the complex while supporting nutrition education.

Volunteer and visitor accommodation

A planned basic residential unit would provide accommodation for visiting volunteer workers, other visitors and tourists.

Beyond the centre

Mobile community outreach

A mobile unit is planned to reach people facing hardship, including street and neglected children and destitute families.

Counselling

Trained counsellors would listen, offer guidance and support access to relevant services such as health care, schooling, birth certificates and identity documents.

Family intermediary work

The team would help find and reconnect families where appropriate, supporting safe reunification and follow-up visits.

Small-business support

Ongoing financial management advice and limited-capital support would help family businesses strengthen stable sources of income.

Long-term resilience

Online operations and sustainability

Online sales

An online shop is envisioned to sell products made by children and women at the complex, reducing physical retail overheads while contributing to the Foundation’s work.

Handicraft shop

A physical handicraft shop at the complex would contribute to charitable work while giving members an opportunity to produce and sell crafts, garments and small furniture.

Grants and donations

The Foundation intends to build relationships with companies, charities, foundations and individual supporters through formal grant and donation applications, its website and the handicraft shop.

Trust and stewardship

Financial management and accountability

Head Office, under Board oversight, is responsible for financial management and fund accounts. The plan identifies separate unrestricted and restricted funds.

Unrestricted fund

Used for authorized projects and activities at the judgement of Head Office.

Restricted fund

Held for a project or purpose chosen by a donor, with funds used only for that purpose unless a donor agrees to reallocation.

Child sponsorship

A proposed programme through which sponsors support a child’s basic living, clothing and schooling costs, with additional contributions held in trust according to the sponsor’s requests.

The Foundation plans separate books for activities, monthly internal reporting from operational units and annual reporting to the Board. Annual reports would include trustee reports, financial statements, an independent auditor’s report, notes to accounts and appendices. A donor reference-number system is proposed to help protect anonymity while giving donors assurance their contribution was received and used for authorized expenditure.
